DASH Funding Programs

(2025)

The Rural Health Data Ecosystem (RHeDE) program explored how rural communities share health information at the local level. Awardees consisted of six pairs of organizations, each pair composed of a state or regional health data leader and a community-based organization located in that same region.

The awardees received $30,000 of financial support. During the award, community awardees also completed one case study interview and mapped their data ecosystem with support from the DASH team.

(2025)

The Health Justice Community of Practice (HJCoP) program helped communities use data as part of a strategic case to support the long-term systems change needed to achieve health justice.

Three awardees received coaching from TheCaseMade consultancy on how to bridge diverse viewpoints and build collaboration to make a strategic case for building a shared vision for community thriving. The program ran from late 2024 through the end of the summer of 2025.

(2024 - 2025)

The Incubator was a funding and support program for established multi-sector or multi-focus local collaborations that were working to strengthen and advance equitable data-sharing ecosystems.

DASH provided a total of $800,000 in funds, technical assistance, mentoring, and peer learning to eight awardees. The funding included compensation for community member participation, organizational staff, and contracting mentors and coaches.

The Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) funding program was designed to help organizations increase their understanding of community data infrastructure as an asset they can leverage.

The ABCD funding program provided funding, training, and coaching to help communities use ABCD principles and tools. 11 communities received $20,000 to support their work.

(2021-2022)

The Learning and Action in Policy and Partnerships (LAPP) funding program helped community partners engaged in data-sharing projects connect with state policymakers.

11 state and community partnerships received funds and technical assistance from DASH across two rounds of the program: six recipients received up to $100,000 in funding in the first round, and five recipients received $80,000 in the second round of LAPP.

(2020-2021)

Recognizing the value of learning from others, the CIC-Cohort program made peer-learning its primary focus. In 2020-2021, the program awarded $25,000 to 8 projects.

The projects either pursued racial health equity within the development of data systems, or they were community-based social service organizations leading collaborative efforts to develop data systems that improve the health of communities.

(2018 - 2021)

The DASH funding program called Community Impact Contracts – Strategic, Timely, Actionable, Replicable, Targeted (CIC-START) was designed to help local collaborations build on their ongoing efforts to share and use multi-sector data to improve community health.

DASH awarded over 50 grants of $25,000 across 5 CIC funding rounds to support local multi-sector collaborations.

(2018 - 2021)

Under the Mentor Program, seven experienced ‘Mentor’ organizations offered coaching and peer-to-peer learning to small groups of ‘Mentee’ organizations to help them develop their own data-sharing abilities.

The program had three funding rounds and reached 104 communities across 38 states.

(2016 - 2018)

In February 2016, DASH awarded ten grants (totaling $2 million) to support projects that improve health through multi-sector data sharing collaborations.

DASH grantees received up to $200,000 each to develop and implement multi-sector data-sharing projects that addressed a range of public health challenges over the course of 18 months.
